H.U.G. Impact in Action
We’re proud to share the continued growth and impact of the Help Us Grow (H.U.G.) Reading Program — empowering students, families, and communities through literacy, mentorship, and technology.
This fall, H.U.G. expanded its reach through key partnerships with AT&T, the American Heart Association, and Boys & Girls Club, while strengthening collaborations with Salve Regina University, Texas A&M, and JCPS.
Across Florida and Kentucky, tutoring sessions were held this quarter, with students learning an average of 7.09 new words per session — doubling last year’s gains! More than 96% of participants reported improved well-being and digital literacy, reflecting the life-changing power of connection through reading.
With 437 applicants and 75 new hires this quarter, plus innovative tech tools like AI avatars and new web app features, H.U.G. continues to grow smarter, stronger, and more connected than ever.
Together, we’re helping students thrive — one session, one story, and one community at a time.

H.U.G. Tutor Well-Being Results
The H.U.G. Reading Program doesn’t just transform literacy outcomes — it also strengthens the well-being of our mentors. Our 2024–2025 Well-Being Survey revealed powerful results: -
96% of tutors reported improved well-being and happiness. -
86% saw growth in digital literacy and connectivity. -
Feelings of isolation dropped to 20% among H.U.G. tutors, compared to the national average of 32.1% (CDC). -
Only 14% reported a lack of companionship, far below the U.S. average of 24.8%. These findings highlight how H.U.G. fosters not only stronger readers, but also stronger communities of connection, purpose, and belonging. | |
